Testimonials

October 2015

What do you get when a meticulous contractor and woodworker builds a house for a meticulous and nitpicky book editor? A house as beautiful and well-crafted as a fine book—a perfect house—at least from the editor's point of view.

I never planned to build a house; indeed, doing such a thing struck me as the very definition of insanity. But after I met Darren Brady and saw several of the houses he built, I knew that working with him was the way to go. After all, I'd been looking for the right house in Port Townsend, without success, for five years already.

Darren's choice of materials, his obvious skill in putting these materials together (literally), and his and his partner Rita's good taste as shown in their own home were by themselves confidence inspiring. But Darren's effectiveness, and the relationship between builder and client, is really put to the test once design and building are under way. And it is in these nitty-gritty phases, when most people have nothing good to say about their contractors, that Darren and Rita (and their subcontractors) shine.
Darren is patient. He never keeps clients in the dark. He listens to them. He gives them a heads-up weeks in advance when decisions need to be made. He explains things. One memorable exchange: DB: "I'll need the mixing valves for rough-in plumbing in a couple of weeks; maybe you could bring them from Seattle next time you come out?" Me: "What the … is a mixing valve?" I realized, fast, that knowing how I wanted the finished plumbing to look and operate meant I had to learn what was in the walls behind said plumbing. He explained, I learned, every bill was itemized and cross-referenced with the initial construction contract, and no decision was made without my knowing exactly what I had gotten myself in for. Darren, Rita, and I worked together like this for months to finish my house, and the communication never faltered. And now, not only am I happy with my house, we live across the street from one another and are still trusted friends and neighbors.

You cannot ask for better.

Dear Darren and Rita,

Mike and I intended to write a letter of recommendation for Brady Construction about a year ago but were so busy moving into our new house that we procrastinated . . . for a long time.  At some point we decided to wait until today, on the Spring Solstice and exactly one year since we moved in, to write that this is the most wonderful home we have ever known.  We have lived in houses in seven states, and some of them were very hard to leave.  We won’t be leaving this one.

Nothing squeaks.

Nothing creaks.

Darren’s beautiful woodwork and many other aspects of this home make us proud to be the owners.  If anyone wants to drop by to see it, we will always be happy to comply.

Sincerely,

Mike and Sandy

Darren,

We are so pleased with every aspect of our home. From the design to the construction Brady Construction Inc.put a great deal of diligence and just plain old perfectionism into this home. This house holds up under a microscope from the eco-friendly materials and hypoallergenic floors (which is very important if you have a child with asthma) to the fine wood work with top notch woods. But the thing we've most enjoyed about our house is the way it feels and the compliments it gets from visitors. When our friends or my coaching clients come in they usually pause and take a deep breath, look around, and say something like, "Wow! What a beautiful home." Then they usually ask if we had it built for us. I just smile and say it feels like that, but we found it all built and ready for us in a great neighborhood!

Thanks for the house!

Sincerely,

Dear Darren & Rita,

We are thrilled with our new home! The pride that you take in your work was evident to us throughout the process, and we couldn't be more pleased with the final result. We really appreciate all of the extra help you gave us along the way. Many people have told us that building a house can be a very stressful process. Thanks to you, we both agree that the most difficult part of our project was picking paint colors and tile (no easy task)!

We feel very fortunate that you were on the site every day working on the project and personally overseeing all of the subcontracted work, contacting us whenever there were questions, and allowing us to make changes before it was too late. It's hard to place a value on that kind of personal attention. It was a great feeling knowing that we never had to worry about anything.

Thank you for your patience with our endless questions. We would gladly recommend you to any prospective client, and you and show our home any time as an example of your work.

Sincerely,

Monte Reinders and Sally Pfaff
